Gercetur warns that entrance to the Vinicunca Rainbow Mountain is free

In response to the alleged intention of charging tourists to enter the area, the Regional Office of Foreign Trade and Tourism (Gercetur) of Cusco reaffirmed that no such charges are authorized. Furthermore, they indicated that if such charges exist, they can be reported to the appropriate authorities.

Through a statement, the entity referred to section 2 of Resolution N.° 9 of August 1, 2024, which stipulates the following: “Due to case 00447-2024-0-1014-JR-PE-01, any action intended to close or obstruct the path connecting the capital of the Cusipata District to the Rainbow Mountain – Vinincunca must be avoided, under penalty.”

Thus, if any issues arise during a visit to the tourist area, visitors can approach the Public Prosecutor’s Office to file their complaints. Likewise, Gercetur demands compliance with the stated mandate and urges the appropriate authorities to apply sanctions if the situation warrants it.

“Once again, we urge tourism service operators: there is no charge for local, national, or international visitors; should such a charge exist, report it through the appropriate channels,” the statement continues.

The announcement concludes with a call for calm, affirming that the Tourist Protection Network is closely monitoring the area alongside the relevant authorities of the Cusipata District. “Understanding that individual interests do not lead to the good development or progress of a society, but rather generate disorder and instability, it is time to work together to strengthen security and build an accessible and sustainable destination for all.”
